One week in November with curved rods.
Remco had been here last September with his father, but is addicted to Ireland and pike fishing but, he is back! Now, here for just one week alone, so he hired me for the whole week, because fishing alone from a boat is not an option, who else can takes pictures of the fish? And it is too dangerous to go alone any way, if something happens there's nobody who can help him!
After weeks of bad weather finally the sun and almost no wind for this week. Changes are not always good for fishing, but we sure enjoy this weather. With fog in the morning and blue skies the rest of the day are we in a good mood for some nice ladies to catch.
After a delicious Irish breakfast, we packed up everything and withr a short walk of 30 seconds we were in the fishingboat.
It was a special week with that wonderful weather, we really caught everything this week .. November is not really more a month for casting with lures, water plants have almost disappeared and the fish is often already in deeper water in November. Sure you can catch them while casting, but it can be tough especially if you know it's trolling a lot better.
Every day we caught fish from small to large, but the largest catches this week were surely 14 PCS of eel traps and big ones!. These traps were linked with nets in between just a wall with floats. This period, the eel moves to sea to spawn and have to pass the narrow part of the Shannon river. When you place the traps over there... bingo, it is only forbidden! After some phonecalls, help is on the way to help us remove these nets. When everything was clean and gone we took of for the last hours of fishing.

Another special catch this week by Remco. Pike fishing that day was not quite good that morning so we decided to go fishing on trout for an hour. We changed the lures we were using and depths, so we started with a higher trolling speed as for pike.
Think within a half an hour a big bang on Remco his fishing rod, it still good be a pike, but saw an enormous jump from a fish and recognized a beautiful brown trout. Remco ... you have one, he brought it gently to the boat and I landed the trout with a finger in the gills, which is not easy!
Remco your first trout of your life is a fact and what a beauty.Meanwhile, around 3 o'clock which I adore so we really should be switched back to the pike fishing and not for nothing!
We caught nearly every day fish on deep diving lures. I think we caught one fish on a bulldwag although a beautiful fish, but it was not the winner this week. Slim deep diving rattling cranking lures were the better catchers this week!
Sometimes it was hard to stop at the end of the day in the dark when these animals began to eat like crazy, it is hard to stop but it had! Too dangerous in the dark to land or to unhook a pike with those sharp treble hooks.
We had enough fish caught this day and we lost some really seriously big ones, but ... ..a new day tomorrow. Unfortunately Remco's week is over, he has to go home tomorrow in a big disbelief ... a week here is gone before you know it....to fast, but he said " Ill be back in May ".
